Supercharged Mazda MX-5 Yusho Concept Revealed

Named after the Japanese word for a tournament-style victory, the Yusho Concept not only dons a supercharger but also a host of carbon fiber accessories and a sporty interior.

At its heart is a new force-fed powertrain, which is based on the standard model’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine but fitted with uprated internals from renowned engine builder Cosworth.

Some of the new components include custom pistons, connecting rods and a high-flow exhaust system, as well as a supercharger.

The end result is a peak output of 237 horsepower and 202 pound-feet of torque, up 70 horsepower and 62 pound-feet on the standard model respectively. Matched to a six-speed manual transmission, the potent powertrain rockets the Mazda MX-5 Yusho Concept to a top speed of 149 mph.

Other upgrades to the car include a set of 17-inch light alloy wheels, a carbon fiber rear diffuser with a pair of exhaust tips mounted centrally, and a custom matte white paint finish. Inside, there are suede trim pieces on the dash, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and sporty Recaro bucket seats.
